Gavin Newsom to ask foreign countries to exempt California from retaliatory tariffs (pretty please)

California Gov. Gavin Newsom will announce plans Friday afternoon directing the state to pursue ‘strategic’ relationships with countries announcing retaliatory tariffs against the U.S., urging them to exclude California-made products from those taxes, Fox News Digital has learned.

Sources in Newsom’s administration told Fox News Digital the announcement is a direct response to President Donald Trump’s ‘Liberation Day’ tariff plan, which sets out a baseline duty of 10% on all imports to the U.S. and some higher percentages for other top traders.

Now, I know it won’t matter (because we are no longer under the rule of law but of men), but this would be a violation of Federal Law; specifically, the Logan Act, which makes it a Federal crime to conduct matters of State with foreign countries (unless the President authorizes it):

Technically, the power to levy tariffs is granted, by the Constitution, to Congress, not the President.  However, Congress — in its continual effort to avoid responsibility and undermine the Constitution by consolidating the government — has given its power to impose tariffs to the Executive (i.e. President Trump):

Furthermore, President Trump is using these tariffs as a matter of foreign policy, which is within his duly authorized Constitutional authority.  Therefore, if Newsom does as he is threatening, he would be in violation of the Logan Act and should immediately be charged, arrested and prosecuted for the same.

But then, what do we care about the rule of law, anyway.  Just tell us which team is winning, the D’s or R’s, and make sure no one interferes with the delivery of our beer and pizza.
