Just As I Had Feared…

I wrote a post not to long ago, in which I expressed my concern that Trump would hand the Presidency to the Supreme Court and MAGA would cheer it as a ‘victory.’  Well, it happened — just the way I had feared it would.

Everywhere I look on conservative media, people are cheering this story as a ‘UGE’ victory for ‘President’ Trump:

BREAKING: Supreme Court Temporarily Grants Trump Ability to Fire Thousands of Federal Employees

I guess I must not get it because I see this as a huge defeat!  Here, maybe some of you will understand if I correct the headline for you.  Try reading it this way:

BREAKING: Supreme Court Temporarily Allows Trump To Exerciser The Authority Of The Presidency

Do you see the difference?

Let me ask a simple question:

Since when does the Supreme Court get to decide if, when and to what extent the President can exercise the authority granted — by the Constitution — to the Executive and only to the Executive?

Let me ask this question another way:

Who — exactly — is the ‘President:’ the one who got elected but needs permission to do the job of the President, or the one who was un-elected, but claims the power to decide if, when, where and how the powers of the President are used?

I have seen legal analysts arguing that Trump’s ‘court compliance policy’ was/is some sort of brilliant strategy to defeat the courts.  I disagree.  By asking the Supreme Court for permission to do what the Constitution has already given him permission to do, Trump (sorry, can’t call him President anymore, he gave that to SCOTU) is — by default — admitting the Supreme Court is superior to the Executive and even the Constitution.  Worse, SCOTUS and the lesser courts have now cemented their precedent.

No ‘President’ will ever be allowed to do his/her job again without first getting the permission of SCOTUS, and that makes SCOTUS the ‘President.’

Not that this will matter, either, but you have now placed the Executive, Legislative and Judicial powers under an un-elected, un-accountable body that holds power for life.  How is that not tyranny?
