The Declaration Is to the Constitution as the Old Testament Is to the New

I have long struggled with this issue, and it bothers me deeply that so many Americans are blind to it.  It is the same with my lament over ‘Christians’ who do not read or understand the Old Testament.

I have said it before and I will say it again:

The Declaration of Independence is the ‘What’ and the ‘Why’ of America, the Constitution is just the ‘How.’

If we do not know and understand the principles and ideals espoused in the Declaration of Independence, we cannot possibly understand the Constitution, let alone adhere to the system of government it is supposed to create.  This is precisely why Men with designs on taking over this nation and its people first sought to sever the Constitution from the Declaration.  Satan did the same within the Christian church when he convinced believers that the Law and Old Testament are dead.  Both are deception and lies that lead to death.  In the first case: the death of our nation; in the second: the spiritual death of the individual.

On earth, it starts by realizing that the Constitution is not the founding document of this nation, the Declaration of Independence is.  Furthermore, the Declaration carries the weight of law.  In fact, the Declaration is written in the form of an international legal complaint of the time.  This is not my opinion, it is an assertion of one of the men most responsible for the Declaration of Independence:

“Before the formation of this Constitution, it had been affirmed as a self-evident truth, in the declaration of Independence, very deliberately made by the Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled that, “all men are created equal, and are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights.” This declaration of Independence was received and ratified by all the States in the Union and has never been disannulled. May we not from hence conclude, that the doctrine of Liberty and Equality is an article in the political creed of the United States.”

Samuel Adams, United States Founding Father, Signer of the Declaration of Independence, “Father of the American Revolution”, Governor of Massachusetts, “The Writings of Samuel Adams”, Harry Alonzo Cushing, editor (New York: G. P. Putnam’s Sons, 1908), Vol. IV, p. 357, to the Legislature of Massachusetts on January 17, 1794.

In a similar way, the Old Testament is the foundation of the Biblical Faith.  Without it, the New Testament is as much of a rudderless ship without a compass as the Constitution is without the Declaration to guide it.

So, what is it that has me so bothered?  Simple:

The Constitution is a Social Contract, and all Parties have broken it!

The Federal Government has broken the Social Contract by violating the Public trust and seeking to make the Constitution into a national government rather than a federal one.  In so doing, it has trampled on the States, as well as the People.  The States have done likewise, trampling on the People in the process.  And worse of all, the People have neglected their duty to each other, to our system of government and to YHWH, the Creator.

It is much the same with Christianity.  It has broken the covenant YHWH made with His people, and it has done so in much the same way as the U.S. Government, State Governments and American People have broken the Social Contract.

Everywhere I turn, I see people doing what they think is right.  No one bothers to subjugate themself to a higher law.  The Federal Government acts as though it is a god, as do the States, the Counties under them and, finally, the People.  We are living in a time such as the Days of Noah:

Everyone is lawless!

I feel like such a hypocrite because I know I still sin.  Worse, I do so willingly.  But I know I am not a hypocrite because I see my actions as willful sin, and I accept my guilt and expect the punishment.  But everywhere I look in our world today, I see people who cannot see themselves clearly in the morality mirror.  They think themselves little gods unto themselves.  There is no honor, no shame and no sense of duty outside that we believe we owe to ourselves.

Oh, what a wretched state of affairs we have made of this world!

It is all so clear to me.  How is it that so few others can see the mess we’ve made because we see and care only for ourselves?  Or the peril we are in as a result?  And how, in such a golden age of information as this, can so many choose to remain willfully ignorant?  Why is it they choose to remain blind?  The Founders left us an abundance of written records explaining what they were trying to do, why and how.  In the same way, the early church has left a similar record for believers.  We need but read and follow their examples.  So why don’t we?  Why do we choose to do as we wish instead?  Are the bread and circuses so much sweeter that Truth and Liberty?  Has Man finally fallen over   Has the restrainer been removed so that Man is allowed to fall over the edge of the abyss into depravity?

Oh, what a wretched man I am…

My dear reader, if you were reading this in hope of discovering some profound truth or solution to the problems of this world, I must apologize: I have no such words to offer.  This is merely the lament of a suffering believer and patriot trying to remain faithful to his Creator and his nation.
